Music
The Music Department at St Petroc's School is
buzzing with activity. The school has always encouraged children to
take up musical instruments. Currently, we have children who
enjoy lessons in piano, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, cornet,
euphonium, guitars and drums. An impressive line-up for a small school. Music is also valued in the curriculum, each class receiving one hour of dedicated music time each week.

| The school choir, which
includes all Key Stage two pupils, practises throughout the
Autumn term for the Christmas Carol service at St Michael's
Church in Bude. In addition we also perform at the Rotary Club
pensioner's Christmas lunch and at local care homes during the
last week of term. The Spring term is dedicated to rehearsals
for our Easter concert, performed in the school hall. This
showcases what the children have learned in their instrumental
lessons, as well as displaying acts they devise on their own,
in class and in choir. The emphasis is on fun and
participation. |
Drama
Drama is the focus for the Summer term
as it is the time for the annual production. After a hugely popular
"Bugsy Malone" last year, we are looking forward to our next
offering of "The Rocky Monster Show". We hope that all the children
from years 3 to 6 will take part in what is sure to be an
entertaining production of monster proportions.Readings and
auditions will take place before Christmas and we will be
rehearsing form January onwards.
Dramatic productions have always been
a high point in the St Petroc's calendar, offering an opportunity
for children to experience the sense of value that can be achieved
from performing in front of an audience.Children learn to work
together, to rely upon each other and to forge friendships, through
dramatic endeavour.
Photographs below show scenes from the KS2 production Bugsy Malone and the KS1 Christmas performance of The Snowchild.
