ST PETROC'S PREP SCHOOL

Welcome to St Petroc’s School. We celebrated our centenary in 2012 and remain the only independent school in Bude, North Cornwall.
St Petroc’s is ideally located in a quiet residential area on Ocean View Road within only a few hundred metres of the sandy beach at Crooklets and the breath-taking South-West Coastal Path.
From our Early Years, the children progress to formal school and our ‘Juniors’, which encompasses Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. At this stage they have moved into the main building and are in school uniform. The school day runs from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., although we run a free ‘Stay and Play’ facility until 5.30 p.m., as well as several after-school clubs.
In Year 3 the children join our ‘Seniors’. The school day is now extended to 5.30 p.m. and entails sports or activities and prep (homework time). Sport is played daily and there is an extensive range of activities from surfing to ballet. The children will also have school sports fixtures at under 9 and under 11 levels at this stage.
Our choir has a strong local reputation, drama is a great strength of the school and the children have the opportunity to learn a wide range of musical instruments. At St Petroc’s a strong emphasis is placed upon the importance of excellent behaviour, good manners and consideration towards others.
Children from St Petroc’s progress to Budehaven, the local secondary school, or a number of independent schools in the region including Shebbear College, St Joseph’s, Blundell’s, Mount Kelly and Truro School.

DEVELOPING SELF-CONFIDENCE FOR LIFE

Academic
St Petroc's begins with Reception, building upon the Foundation Stage Curriculum, which lays a strong foundation for the child’s education throughout their school life.
From here the children move through Key Stage One and Key Stage Two National Curriculums. The longer school day, starting in Year 3, means that the children stay at school until 5.30pm(rather than 3.30pm). This provides the time, notonly for sports and other activities to be added to the timetable, but also, for Prep to be done at school.
Sport
Overseen by England Counties and Cornwall rugby player, Ben Hilton, sport at St Petroc’s is a major strength of the school.
The school day for the Seniors (Years 3- 6) finishes at 5.30 p.m., which allows us time to run sport and activities every afternoon.
Under 11 and Under 9 girls and boys teams, in all major sports, compete with other schools in the area and we are proud of our strong record.
This year we had pupils who qualified for the ISA Nationals in Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics and Netball. The U11 girls came 4th in the Nationals and one of our girls came 3rd at the National Athletics Championships.

Music & Drama
Music is at the very heart of school life at St Petroc’s and again we commit curriculum time every week to it as a subject.
Drama is also a very important part of school life at St Petroc’s. We believe that it contributes hugely to our aim of developing self-confidence and offers the chance to develop skills for life.
